91-93 - RP, 92 WS. Ch?teau de Rayne-Vigneau 2007 is a white - sweet/dessert wine, made by Ch?teau de Rayne-Vigneau. Its origin is Sauternes in Sauternais, Bordeaux, France. It is made from a S?millon-Sauvignon Blanc blend. It is produced from the 2007 harvest.
Harvested in Canada's crisp winter, the grapes are frozen on the vine. This vintage shines with an alluring assortment of fresh nectarine, papaya, lychee, tangerine and orange blossoms. These exquisite fruit flavors, combined with invigorating acidity,offer multiple layers of balanced pleasure.
This has a much more precocious nose than other 2007s: honey, apricot, peach, a touch of spice, mandarin and a soupcon of warm alcohol, in other words, quintessential Doisy-Vedrines. The palate is full-bodied, viscous on the entry and maintaining good balance, fine acidity cutting through the rich honey, quince and apricot fruit, with great definition and vitality towards the botrytis-rich finish. There is real pedigree here, and the 2007 surely represents their best wines since the triumvirate of 88, 89, and 90. This is a benchmark Doisy-Vedrines. Drink 2015-2045.
92 pts RP A flamboyant display of smoky oak, buttered peach and caramelized pineapples and orange marmalade notes are impressive. On the palate, the wine exhibits a multi-dimensional, textured, full-bodied style with terrific fruit, depth, and some toasty oak in the background. This is a big, blockbuster style of Sauternes to drink over the next 20-25 years.

Delivering 12.0% ABV and 200gms residual sugar, Denis Dubourdieus luxury Barsac, the 2007 L Extravagant de Doisy-Daene, does not hold back, born with a lucid golden hue with big fat tears (of joy). The bouquet is very intense but very tight at first, demanding time to unfurl in the glass at its own pleasure: white peach, apricot, orange-blossom and a touch of marmalade with breathtaking definition. The palate is full-bodied with a viscous entry, so pure and caressing with mellifluous honey, apricot and citrus lemon, wonderful delineation on the finish, the thread of acidity interwoven through that powerful finish with the length of an ocean liner. Ice-wine, called eiswein in German, is a speciality that has hidden depths. The noble sweet wine is highly concentrated and captivates through a crystal-clear, pure fruit, character.
This has a very primal nose, the oak exposed at the moment although there is obviously a great deal of fruit concentration underneath. The palate is well balanced, a little oaky on the entry, dried honey, lemon curd, apricot and orange peel towards the linear finish. Tightly coiled Sauternes, quite modern in style, this should develop over 8-10 years in the bottle before really opening up and one hopes, evolve a little more personality. Drink 2011-2025.
Ch?teau d'Yquem is the the most sought after sweet wine in the world ... . Planted to 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon, this legendary First Growth estate is located in the heart of the Sauternes region, and sits atop a small hill overlooking its neighbors. Although much Yquem is drunk very young by impatient consumers, the wine remarkably has the ability to age for 50-75+ years.
