"Nice light mahogany color. The nose is full of caramel, orange peel, coffee, sea salt, and walnuts. The palate is full bodied and nicely sweet with a very small amount of tannin and good acidity. Long warm finish. A smokin' good Colheita."
"91 Points-Wine Advocate. The 1979 has always reminded me of an Italian Barolo with its melted asphalt, soy, tobacco, and earthy personality. It is medium to full-bodied, somewhat sinewy and tannic, but vibrant, dense, and chewy. Although not the most complex Beaucastel, it is still vigorous and alive. (2003)"
"A saucy little tart of a wine"
"This wine was so easy to drink at age two that it is hard to believe it is still holding together. The color is medium ruby with amber at the edge. The nose is textbook Graves - minerals, spice, tobacco, and red and black fruits. With low acidity and medium body, this supple, attractive wine should be drunk up as it is unlikely to improve . Tasted 5 times after bottling with consistent tasting notes."
"Dark and intense with cedary, earthy and mushroomy flavors and just glimpses of moderately ripe currant and cherry."
"Nut, plum and tobacco character. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a dust, berry, plum, raisin and herb character."
