"92 Points- Wine Spectator. Sleek, crisp and vibrant, offering floral strawberry and sweet ginger aromas, with luscious raspberry and lemon fruit, plus accents of spice and mineral, followed by a bone-dry finish."
"Intense and deep ruby color. On the nose, rich perfumed, packed with red and black fruits. Sweet and bursting of flavors of black berries and black currants balanced by firm tannins. Long and lingering velvety smooth finish."
"94 Points- WE. Full bodied and densely concentrated. As it's aged solely in large vats, there's no oak influence and the wine needs a bit of bottle age to come around. For now, it's a bit monolithic, showing hints of mint, black olive and ripe raspberries before ending long and fine. Drink 2017-2030, and perhaps beyond."
"90 pts Wine Spectator Stylish, with a fresh sanguine note running through the core of black cherry and blackberry confiture flavors. Picks up additional spice and red licorice notes on the finish."
"The 2008 Rauzan-Segla (62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot) was made from 45% of the production. It is a beautiful wine in this vintage, not nearly as powerful and structured as the 2010, but it has complex notes of sweet red and black fruits, unsmoked cigar tobacco, spice box and a hint of very subtle wood. The complex perfume is followed by a dark ruby/plum-colored wine with beautifully sweet tannins, a silky, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. This outstanding Margaux should drink nicely for 15-20 years."
"Shows an array of fruit, starting with the usual suspects of black raspberry and black currant with blueberry, pomegranate, and cranberry in the background. A nose of grilled meats accompanies the fruit, along with caramel and eucalyptus on the finish. A luscious mouth feel and silky tannins round out this balanced wine."
"A blend of primarily Syrah, Mourvedre and Cabernet Sauvignon. A hugely popular wine with consumers and critics. Long fermentations and barrel aging for maximum flavor development and complexity. It hits all of the points on the palate, dark and brooding to fit its name. Enjoy this wine now or age it for 5-10 years."
"Youthful purple color. Fresh redcurrant and cherry aromas are complemented by mocha and pipe tobacco. Lively and precise, with a refreshingly bitter quality to its tangy red and dark berry flavors. Closes with firm grip and dusty tannins, leaving spice and zesty red fruit notes behind."
"92 Points- Wine Advocate. The entry level 2008 Mauro is composed of Tempranillo and. It is a full bodied, rich, racy offering with layered fruit, a vibrant acid structure, and savory black fruit flavors. On the palate all components are nicely integrated coming together in a long, pure finish. It will evolve for 2 to 3 years and drink nicely through 2023."
"93 pts - WE One of the stars of the vintage, this elegant, smoky wine has hints of barbecue pit intermixed with sweet black currants and cherries. Dark purple and medium to full-bodied, its impressive finesse and wonderful purity make for a surprisingly forward style of Smith-Haut-Lafitte to drink over the next 15 or so years."
