The aroma is clear and intense, with hints of black cherry, tobacco, dried mushrooms, spices such as nutmeg and pepper and some balsamic aromas reminiscent of resin and mint. The taste is warm, soft, with sweet and velvety tannins that go well with a fresh acid note that helps to provide a long final persistence.

Packed with cherry, floral and stone flavors, this is round and fleshy, despite the beefy tannins. Keeps on building to the long, intense and complex finish, which remains compressed for now. Best from 2022 through 2040.
This is a new product that is hitting the market for the first time. The 2013 Barolo Proprietà in Fontanafredda is unique in that the vineyard cru is within the property of this single estate. Fruit for this wine comes from the steep hill you see on the right as you enter the Fontanafredda estate. It once went into the Barolo Serralunga d'Alba blend, but has now been channeled off to create its own bottling. The bouquet is a bit smokey and savory with wild berry and mild primary fruit intensity. Pressed rose, cola and campfire ash rise from the bouquet. The tannins are polished and fine (like a Pinot Nero) and the wine shows a level of finesse and light-footedness that you don't usually see in Serralunga d'Alba wines.
