Niellon's 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean (Rouge), from one of the commune's finest red terroir, opens up with a lovely bouquet of ripe cherry and rich, truffley soil. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and succulent, its chassis of firm tannins nicely enrobed in a deep core of fruit. For those prepared to look further afield, this will be a very rewarding bottle of good value red Burgundy.
Pale yellow. Aromas of pear, menthol and stone are less fruity than most of Niellon's other '15s. Juicy and tight on the palate, showing excellent cut to its lemon, pear and wet stone flavors. Finishes with a firm edge and good lift.
