90 Rating! WS This estate has been on a qualitative upswing for a number of years and the 2011 is a seductive effort revealing a dense ruby/plum color as well as fragrant notes of sweet cherries and spice, abundant fruit and glycerin, and a medium-bodied mouthfeel with no hard edges. It is a delicious, textbook Pomerol to drink now and over the next decade. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

The deep ruby/plum/purple-tinged 2011 exhibits sandy, loamy soil, ripe cassis and kirsch scents. Surprisingly flamboyant and opulent for the vintage with good acidity, ripe tannins and a long, layered style, it should drink well for 15+ years. Older readers, who may remember the light, fruity, but pleasant and charming wines Rouget produced 25-30 years ago, will be shocked at how rich, full-throttle and intense current releases have become.
I like the quality of the tannins here, which are ripe but not overdone. Full and round with chocolate and berry character. Balanced.
Sports a dark profile, with ganache and espresso notes enmeshed with the core of fig and blackberry confiture flavors. Long and velvety through the finish, featuring a smoky note that weaves in and out. For fans of the not-shy style.
