Deep, intense nose of ink, violets, bitter chocolate and coriander seed. Peppermint, sandalwood, cigar box, graphite and garrigue herbs unfurl on an expressive attack – and linger. Following the driest April since 1982, the tannins are paper-fine, ripe and plentiful. Like sap rising, the cocoa-dusted blackberry and cherry fruit slowly permeates the palate. Elegant and precise, with a long, tapering mineral and bitter chocolate finish.

Complex aromas of berries, spices, chocolate and walnuts with some dried spices, such as nutmeg and cinnamon. Full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and beautiful length, with honed tannins that drive you deep down in the center of the wine. Wonderfully manicured. So drinkable now, but better in three to five years.

The 2017 vintage of this winery's top-tier red was on the cooler side for Margaret River, resulting in extra elegance alongside power and polish. Waves of aromas and flavors flow in the form of plum, currant, black olive, tar, leather, tobacco leaf and other savory herbs. A sanguine note sits at the back. The full-figured palate shows lovely freshness and poise. The tannins are chalky, chiseled and well-structured. Drink until 2040.

Impressive for its complexity and nuances, as well as its power. Dried sage, rosemary and bay leaf flavors mingle with tobacco and toasted cumin notes. A core of plum, salted black licorice, blueberry cobbler and cassis flavors is generous and finds some appealing traction on the muscular tannins. Harmonious finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2036.
